A highly competitive game as the league champions Mosaic took on the league and cup runners up Meredith Road in the first Group A game of this year’s competition. After an end to end start to the game, with Mosaic’s pace causing Meredith some worries and with high pressure being put on the Mosaic back four at the other end, both goal keepers were busy
(Photo: Mosaic Keeper making a save from a Kyle Aubrey shot). It was Meredith who scored first when their new signing, from Elim, Stuart Wheatcroft followed in on a saved shot to put the ball in the net. Mosaic soon equalised with the Meredith Keeper beaten at his near post. A great first half of football ended with score at 1 all.
Meredith found the second half to be frustrating, which was not helped by the referee. Early on a Mosaic player was judged to have been held back in box and they were awarded a penalty. The penalty was initially saved by the keeper only to be put in net on the follow up. Mosaic then scored another making it 3-1. The game was sealed as the Mosaic striker was fouled in the box with the resulting penalty converted, after a retake for encroachment. Meredith kept the pressure on throughout the game with a very well taken consolation goal from Kurtis Luford.
A great game of football played in a good spirit by both teams, final score 4-2, Meredith making it hard for themselves if they want to make another Final.
