Athletico Mosaic 5 Elim 0 League Game Match Report JC

Athletico Mosaic were coming in to the game on the back of a good run with two wins and a draw in their last three games in all competitions against some of the toughest opposition in the league. However they remained wary as opponents Elim had managed an impressive, hard fought draw the week before with league leaders BEC.

The players gathered for a minutes silence in the centre circle and as the referee’s whistle sounded to signal the end of the minute, both teams cheered encouragement to one another and got themselves into position ready for the next 90 minutes to start.

Right from the off Mosaic pressed the ball hard and a couple of probing runs into the opposition’s box began to ring alarm bells for the Elim defenders. It was within the first 10 minutes that Jack Kovacs broke through the defence and slotted the ball home to put Mosaic up a goal to nil. The teams reset and but minutes later Mosaic were applying hard pressure again. Ball after ball were put into the box but the Elim defence dealt well with the pressure and saw the ball out safely every time.

A cleared ball fell to the feet of Mosaic winger Angelo Ofori Kissi who was making his first start for the defending league champions Mosaic. A few cries of “shooooot” and moments later the ball was smashed through the air and into the back of the net. 2-0 Mosaic. However it appeared that 2 was not enough, and a Mosaic continued to apply pressure, hitting the crossbar twice in the following minutes before Martin Brennan (making his first appearance in 4 games since picking up an injury) made a masterful run through midfield before playing the ball across for Kuran Heer to bag his first goal for Mosaic.
Late in the first half Elim managed to gather a bit of momentum and had a good spell of possession on the ball before managing a couple of shots at the Mosaic goal. The boys in blue defended well and saw out the first half to see the half end at 3-0.

Neither team made any changes at half time and the second half began with Elim looking much stronger than they had in the first. Some nice play led to a couple of chances for the home team but again the Mosaic defence remained stalwart and fought to keep their clean sheet.

About mid-way through the second half Mosaic left back Mark “Medved” Medley made a dangerous run forwards from the back, driving toward the Elim defence before setting up Kuran for his second of the game; 4-0 Mosaic. A few minutes later Mosaic were awarded a free-kick in a dangerous area looking straight at goal. The Elim keeper Ryan held up four fingers and a wall was formed in due course. Kuran stepped up to take the kick and delivered a lovely curving ball over the wall that thudded against the crossbar and went out for a goal kick. So close!

Mosaic and Elim both made subs after this and 5 minutes before the end of the game George Essuman who has already proven himself a threat this season fought his way through the Elim defence and hammered the ball home, delivering the final blow and finishing the game off with a resounding 5-0 win to Athletico Mosaic.
