On the back of 2 losses Meredith needed to get back to winning ways. After a 9-2 defeat to Meredith on the opening day of the season St John Fisher would be looking for a much better result, however it was not a good start for them as in the first 5 minutes Ashley Bulpitt put a long ball over the top for Kyle Aubrey to score the opening goal.
The game settled down with John Fisher starting to pass the ball well in midfield making Meredith work for every ball. The Meredith hard work paid off though as they broke with a blocked shot met by Darius Bristow for his 3rd goal of the season. 2-0 at half time.
The second half started well for Meredith as early on when the St John keeper found himself stranded outside his box the clearance landed at the feet of Aubrey who passed the ball into the goal from about 30 yards out for his second goal of the game.
The game was very tight for the most part but Meredith were clinical in taking their chances. Owen Ashby (photo: son of the Manager Andy) has been training with Meredith since he was 13 and as he turned 16 in September joined the first team. He missed out on the last game but started today and worked really hard on the right which was rewarded as he ran into the box all the way to the byline and hit a shot square across the goal which hit the far post and finished in the net!
At 4-0 Meredith made a change from 442 to 352, this caused some confusion at first as St John pushed on with their striker finding some space on the right of the box striking the ball past the keeper. 4-1.
Meredith reacted quickly though winning a free kick on the right side of the pitch in their own half. Scott Bambrick slipped as he took the free kick but some how still managed to make his pass to Darren Evans the right hand side of the St John box, Evans ran the ball on and crossed it the the feet of Aubrey at the back post making his hatrick!
A great day for Meredith with the final score 5-1 taking them upto fourth in the Group A cup table.
